That's what I thought, Brian. Nope. The lock tab was in the correct postion. I cycled it a couple of times just to be sure but no change.

I have updated the charts and data before with this machine and this data card and all worked normally. Now it is giving the CRC Fail message and will not update stuff plus the SD card now says it is locked even thought the lock tab/switch thing is in the proper spot. I suspect that the CRC Fail message is most likley becuase the SD card thinks it is locked.

Maybe I could copy the contents of the SD card onto a blank card and see if things will work with the new card?

I will send a Support email as you suggested earlier. Thanks.

Happy New Year to all!

Bob

Trying another SD card is a good idea.  iFly should run fine if you just do a simple file copy from one card to the other (if you don't have an easy way to plug both cards in at the same time, using an intermediate folder on your hard drive to hold the files during the process works fine).

Back in the day, iFly devices used to come with a bonus in-car navigation app called "Streets" that would only work if the original SD card was used.  I haven't heard any chatter about that app in a long time, so I don't think it's a thing anymore.

I just thought to include a final results message here for folks...............

After this series of postings the support folks contacted me to suggest that I mail them the unit so they could check it out as a complete system. I mailed it and they checked it. It turned out to be a very simple problem -- the SD card had failed. They replaced the card and all has been normal ever since. With 20-20 hindsight I should have replaced the SD card before going to the expense and hassle of shiipping the unit back and forth, but that solution worked well.

Thanks a lot to the great Support team at iFly!!
