extended instruments added VST keeps disappearing

I may misunderstand how this is done. I want to add VST to the extended layout.

first, I do "Instruments Layout.".

then, "Customize Layout" > "Select Layout" > "[Restore Default Layout]" > "Reset All Defaults" > "Yes", to make sure I have not made any mistakes.

back in customize: now I do "Select Layout" > "Add Instrument" > VST > "add" (bottom). --- I now see the four extra fields on the right, including VST.

back in customize: "save" . I have choice of "Save as New" and "Save Current". I choose the latter...and the four extra fields disappear. (they are not in the extended instrument group.)

How can I add VST for it to be always seen?

advice appreciated.

The VST instrument is designed to automatically hide itself when not needed. I don't remember the exact threshold, but once you are close enough to an altitude change that your required vertical speed to reach the target exceeds a certain limit (maybe 100 feet per minute, in English units?), then it will appear.

I don't think there's an option to force the VST instrument to always be visible.

When I add an instrument, it's always to a customizatized layout I have already done. So, I load that one, and don't restore the default layout.
