I was going to point to the GPS RAIM warning for guidance. (Display a warning when signal lost for 30 seconds?) But I like the idea of reporting when the signal is lost for x minutes. (Probably would have to come up with a clever graphic, since text like "ADS lost for 5 minutes" won't fit easily in the Instrument. Maybe four Yellow vertical bars that fill with each minute of no signal?)

OldPilot, go back and re-read Walter's list. Your understanding is incorrect. The only difference between "Tower Idle" and "Out of Range" is whether or not 5 minutes has passed since the last receipt of data.

iFly can't truly know whether you're in range or not. It only knows it's not receiving a signal from the tower...it can't possibly know why.

Could the text be changed to something like, "ADSB lost for x minutes"? It's worthwhile to have an idea of how long it's been since the last update.
Yes, I understand that. But if I am in range and it's truly because no data is being transmitted, it will resolve itself quickly when it receives data. If I am out of range, it will soon change to "out of range."
