Wouldn't acid leakage be a concern when using a lawn mower or similar lead acid battery?

Acid leakage could be a concern. So far, I've encountered no difficulty from the battery I am using to test whether the Ifly can be used with a small lawn tractor/motorcycle battery. I doubt that I would keep a lead acid battery in the plane if I were to do aerobatics. Replacing the current battery with a sealed battery of this type would not be a problem or costly. An advantage of the lawn tractor type battery is that the gps could run on it for an enormous amount of time without recharging.

Being new to this is there some type of adapter that I would need to purchase that goes in between the 12v battery and the cigarette lighter adapter?

I attached a Radio Shack recepticle to the battery (alligator clips can be used) so the Ifly700 can be plugged in the same way it is plugged into a cigarette lighter plug. It cost about $ 8.00 and is well worth it.

Chuck, the cords that power the iFly (both the AC and DC/cig lighter cords) can be used to charge the battery as well. There is a special cord that runs from the battery to the iFly, which is provided with the battery purchase. So you shouldn't need to purchase anything else. Please note, however, that the battery can only be charged in a 12v aircraft - not a 24v.
