i would find valuable the ability to load updates on my smartphone (droid) rather than a thumb drive but have been unsuccessful in these attempts. Is this possible, and if so, how? If not, could this be added to wish list?

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin,

I have done this on my Droid X. If I use the Opera browser the update is downloaded to the proper place and given the proper name. If I then connect the Droid X to the iFly it is recognized and the update is applied. It works fine for me.

Mike,

I installed Opera which works great. Thanks for the tip.

Dave, my phone came with a cable for charging that has a microUSB connector on one end (that fits the phone) and a standard USB connector on the other (same as a flash drive). I used this to connect phone to iFly.

I use my smartphone and "Mobile Hotspot" to connect my desktop to the net. I was concerned about my 5GB/Mo. data limit (AT&T is 2GB.) There is, fortunately, no data limit on using the phone itself on the net and it has an 8GB capacity. I now DL to the phone, USB transfer to the desktop and thus the thumb drive, rename the file iflyupdatepackage.zip (it gets a default name when DL'd to phone), and bam, update the iFly! A little convoluted perhaps, but no worries about exorbitant data charges. I think it might be possible to update from the phone, but it would require getting the file out in the open so the iFly could "see" it (it's in a downloads file w/ phone in USB mode) and also renaming it. Good luck finding someone at Palm who could figure that out, especially after their lousy 90 day support period is over (LOL.)

I hope this helps someone,

Don
