I have had  long-standing issues with my Stratux.  Love it when it is working, but it continually quits transmitting  WiFi randomly and sometimes won't even transmit WiFi on start up.  I have worked through lots of advice on power issues, cables, batteries, corrupted SD cards, etc.  I finally sent the unit back to Crewdog Electronics.  They said they could find nothing wrong with the unit.  It worked fine on the bench, exept that it continues to log data even though logging is turned off in the settings.  Deleting the log files does not seem to prevent the intermittent WiFi issue.  I don't want to unmount the thing and bring it home after each flight, remove the SD card and reflash it before flying again.

You mentioned doing a clean shutdown before removing power.  I was not aware of this.  How do you do this?  I thought the only way to shut it down was to turn off external power or disconnec the cable.  

I really like the synthetic vision and AHRS.    If I can't get the thing to be reliable, I may be looking at the Astro Link. 

Can someone please tell me how to do a "Clean Shutdown before removing power?"  I would appreciate any help.

It's been over a year since I've used my Stratux, but I know there is (was) an IOS (at least) app that, among other things, would allow you to send a message to the Raspberry Pi/Stratux to shut it down "properly".  In that time, I'm pretty sure the iFly program has included a Stratux shut down ability.

Yes, with your help I did find that the iFly menu does give an option to shut down the Stratux.  That option only shows when Stratux is connected to the iFly via wifi.

 Well, guys, here is an update.  I got the Stratux unit back from Crewdog yesterday.  I ran it for 12 hours yesterday, and used the shutdown proceedure you showed me several times in that interval.  It ran without a hitch.

This morning I started it up and after 2 minutes the wifi quit.  I restarted it, and after 5 minutes it quit again.  I restarted again, and it has been running for a half hour this time, and still going.  The Crewdog guys were unable to stop it from logging, but the log file size is only 460 Kb at this time and going up, so it is not an issue of filling up the card at this point.

No way am I putting this thing back in the airplane.  It is just too frustrating.  I guess I got a bad one.

Well THAT stinks.  I'd think the company you bought it from would simply replace it.  If they won't, and if you're up to it, you might just get a new Raspberry Pi, and slip it into your housing, and plug all the peripherals you've already bought into it.  I goy my Pi at MicroCenter a couple of years ago for less than $40.

I bought it from iFly, and it has been more than a year ago.  I am still talking to Crewdog about it.  Wondered if he will recommend a new Pi.  They only seem to be focused on the red power light.  I have been powering it with three different methods:  The recommended battery power bank, a 2.4 Amp USB supply at home and another one in the  plane.  The light does blink on the one at home, usually not on the plane USB, never on the power bank.  Regardless, the behavior is the same on all three.

Might abe time to give up on this thing.  It is not essential, but a nice toy.
