Perhaps I just had bad luck, but I had two cards fail from this malady over the last two years...

I reflashed them and have a good working one now, but took the good advice from folks here, and started shutting it down manually each and every time now - never had another issue.

Could be the newer cards are now "fixed" or it could be I just had a couple of bad cards, but this did happened to me (and I have plenty of old posts to prove it). In fact, before this thread started, I asked HOW we could tell the STRATUX was shutting down using the softkey to shut it down on the Ifly MENU page.

Believe me, when it happens to you in flight, it is very frustrating.

The way it was explained to me was akin to how you shut a computer down in your home...would you just pull the power or would you turn it off first?

Perhaps this does not matter or is a bad analogy, but it made sense to me at the time and still does.

Your own results may vary!

Thanks for asking this again and big thanks for going right to the designer for a definative response.

This same discussion is just starting on the Cessna 150/152 Club of America...same points....same arguments.

I took off for a burger flight this morning only to find my Stratux would not connect to my iPad. I turned on my iPhone just to check and it would not connect either. So, I assumed my Stratux micro SD became corrupted last week with I pulled the plug. Got home this afternoon, reflashed the card, and all is good. After all that, I remembered I have a backup card also and yes, it still works. Too bad it was at home and not in my flight bag. Maybe I'll make 2 back-ups.

Tim,

Glad you solved it and knew what to do right away...I am seeing a spate of similar problems with the STRATUX lately -- newer folks stymied at the reliability of the system.

I wonder if the folks who have the STRATUS system need to tinker with it as much as we "fix" the STRATUX, granted we pay a LOT LESS for it...

This weekend, a buddy and I spent about 5 hours tightening up all the hardware, antennas, connections and what little wiring there is inside my STRATUX, then reflashing the primary and backup cards, then getting it all to connect and work properly...that is a lot of time to get this to operate.

While I like it, I am already starting to wonder if I should move to a more reliable system...

It is very distracting when it suddenly stops working in flight or between flights and I'm already on a cross country. Yep, I do carry a second card now -- probably something you suggested a while ago.

Anyway, I know the STRATUX will always be a "work in progress" and you simply cannot beat the price, but there are days I would simply pay for more reliability. Rant complete!

I have been using the Stratux for several years and this is the first problem I have had. For me, it's been very dependable except for this one time.

On another note, I have been trying to do a disk copy to a slightly smaller SD card and can't get it to work. I've tried a few different free partition manager software programs to shrink the larger card and can't get it to work. Does anyone know of a foolproof way to get this to work. I would simply flash the smaller card, but I made some modifications to my Stratux program that were a little complicated and I doubt I could figure that out again. I renamed the Stratux program and made it password protected.
