Hey Folks! This is an inquiry into how all of my systems are interacting. Just in case someday I need to trouble shoot.

The system:

  1. Ifly 740b "sort-of" panel mounted with an iFly external GPS antenna.
  2. Trio autopilot with altitude hold
  3. newly installed uAvionics echoUAT with skyFYX-EXT antenna

Questions:

  1. I notice that with the ADSB now installed the "GPS status" instrument which used to display bars now displays "ADS-B" and one large bar. Is the GPS position data now being supplied via WiFi by the echo from its dedicated antenna?
  2. And is this the position data now being sent to the autopilot? In otherwords, is the 740b auto-switching between GPS antenna data feeds?

That's all for now. Loving the 740b. Much easier to use than the old Garmin!

The iFly software is always watching to see which Avaliable GPS signal is stronger, so in your case, when you see the ADS-B in the GPS box, yes, the iFly is using GPS data from the Echo over WiFi.  If you were to disconnect the Echo, then the unit would resort back to using its own GPS (Or plugged in external GPS)

Logan,

Thanks for the answer!   Very cool having a 'smart' system.

Best,

John

To clarify, I don't think iFly is actively comparing GPS sources to see which is "stronger".  I think the iFly logic is built such that if you are connected to an ADSB device with its own GPS, then iFly will use that.  If that source is not available, then if the device it's running on has built-in GPS, it will fall back to that.

I'm pretty sure that it's possible for the iFly device to have a great GPS lock, but the ADSB device to have a marginal GPS lock, and iFly will still continue to use the ADSB GPS.

Well, I guess only the coders know for sure. Maybe one of them will let us know.
