I have found an Android app that will look at GPS altitude and speed and give me glide ratio.
So if I have an engine failure I can look at the read out and adjust pitch for the best glide ratio no matter the winds.
If you go to the MAP mode you will get a Google Earth view of your path over the ground. In the lower left corner a box contains altitude, mph up or down, ground speed and finally, what I really find useful, glide ratio.
This application was designed for those who experiment with flight suits.
You can record your flight track also.
It will give you vocal readings of either horizontal speed, vertical speed, total speed, glide ratio or navigation.
I downloaded the manual which is not the best and am trying to understand all the functions.
All I am actually interested in is the glide ratio and that appears to work well and can be made better with ancillary equipment.
The app is BASELINE designed for base jumpers and can be found in the Play Store.
I am hoping this will be available on IFLY soon. I currently have IFLY on my Android tablet and ForeFlight on my Apple tablet and baseline on my phone.
