We just finished our NC-UT migration using our Android tab. I always use the runway extensions as another means of verifying that what I'm doing is what I'm supposed to be doing....

The extensions are shown with red/white shading, which to be honest I thought related to the left/right pattern for that particular runway, but I found that isn't the case. The runway left/right pattern is shown with a green directional leg extending from the red/white extension marking. IMHO, the green marking is much harder to see than the red/white shading.

Two easy to find examples are CNY and HSD.

Would it be possible to use the red/white shading for pattern markings as well as the green directional leg?

Seems like that would be confusing?? The green is very visable on IPad. Is it not on Android?

The green isn't as visible as the red/white shading until the view is scaled really far in. Yes I do scale in when close to the airport, but I'd like to be able to confirm my notes and approach plan from a bit farther out. IMHO, the red/white shading is readily viewable when using a larger view as opposed to the green marking which tends to get lost on the sectional coloring.

Not sure what would be confusing as per my suggestion the white side of the runway extension would be just the same as the green direction marking.

Not if it's a right traffic pattern. I just think some people would confuse the traffic pattern markings with the runway centerline markings. I prefer having the traffic pattern look nothing like the centerline.

On my android phone (Samung Note 4) when zoomed out to a width of 34nm or greater the green pattern indicator can get a little bit lost in the sectional. Closer than that and it shows up just fine for me. I'd be ok with the pattern indicator being solid red and a tad bigger (maybe same size as the wind barbs?) but white doesn't seem like the best color for it.

Also on android the runway extension is outlined in red with the wings being white. Screen shots below at 34nm & 17 nm widths.
