Yesterday most of South Florida was covered by a large pink TFR from ground level to 17999 feet, purpose to allow for fire fighting aircraft, and active from 08/07/15 to 10/01/14! Never heard of fire fighting being done from that height! The area extended out over the ocean and the Keys, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood. I had not heard of any major fires in the area or the Everglades. Today it has gone. Was that for real?

Frank, yes, the FAA really published a TFR at that location for that altitude. Now, was it really needed or was it a mistake? I cannot tell....

Thanks!
Walter

My friend's wife was taking her Private Pilot check ride in south Florida yesterday. They just wanted to clear enough area for her. Just a precaution.

You expect us to believe the FAA actually had a useful TFR?

Fantastic comeback, Mike. My feelings exactly.
