After you get iFly running, a quick review of the Duo would be appreciated. The camera is the only downside that I've heard of.

Sorry I've been MIA.  The latest beta does fix the app as long as in Single Screen Mode.  If I try and span across 2 screens, it crashes out.  With that said, I absolutely love the Duo. The camera does, in fact, stink.  No getting around that.  So if that's important to you, I'd recommend skipping.

As far as the rest, it's totally changed my way of interacting with a mobile device.  I maybe 'sort of?' miss imessage/FaceTime.    There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's just different.  I'm coming from an iPhone so there's that.  I've noticed in a lot of reviews, the reviewers were simply swiping 'wrong' which caused the thought of 'jankiness'.  An example would be swiping up to get App Drawer.  The correct gesture is to simply swipe up on the screen, but many reviewer are swiping up from the bezel onto the screen.  This won't work.  And it's not supposed to.  So, it ships with a tips and tricks app.  It took me 5 minutes to go through that and I was all set.   Same is true with the different keyboard layouts.   Takes a bit to get accurate as my muscle memory is iPhone since the beginning.  But now I'm fine and accurate.

Dual screen on a mobile device is enlightening.  I had no idea how often I would use it.  Your Phone App for PC folks is awesome.  You can send/receive texts, make calls, copy files/pictures, copy/paste, and even control your phone on your pc.  All while the duo is closed. Wirelessly or on charge.  Very handy.  The other thing I didn't expect is the aspect ratio makes everything just more readable.  Fonts in my browser for comments in forums are much bigger and easier to read.  This is very nice for my 48 year old eyes.  Finger print reader is crazy good and fast.  And the OS is just so personalizable that I love it.  And if that's not your thing, it's very very nice out of the box. I've kept my setup very clean.  Bottom line:  it's a keeper for me.  I did pick up my iPhone yesterday with ios14 on it to see if I missed it.  I put it down within 5 minutes.  So now it's for sale!

Ideas for iFly:

  1. Take advantage of the dual screen spanning once fixed. Just full screen map and you can rotate both directions.
  2. Consider the split screen for just about everything...
  • map on left, flight plan on right
  • or when tapping an Airport or airspace on map, load the details on the right.
  • or map on left, instruments on the right.
  • or have button bar on left, but tapping NRST, loads all airport on the right.
  • 3D EFIS on once screen and Map on the other

The advantage of these is larger tap targets when in a bumpy airplane. Unrelated to the Duo, I do wish iFly had a bit more robust Vector map and layers.  I just love Foreflight's implementation.  Same with a good Logbook and more robust Weather planning (MOS, multiple days out forecasts/etc.).

Thanks!
John

Great ideas! And I might just have to pick one up, now.

Any projections on making iFly more friendly to the Duo?
