My old phone died.  It was running Android 7.0 and iFly GPS ran on it fine.  My new phone (just got it) is running Android 8.1.0 and iFly GPS will not run on it.

Can you please give us more details about this.  I believe it is running on all other Android 8.1 phones/tablets that we are aware of.  Did you get the latest 11.0.57 from the PlayStore?

And when you say, "will not run", what exactly do you see?  Does it show the iFly GPS splash screen, and then quit?  If so, how long does it take to fail?

Ideally, we can get a Log file from you, which may be accessible via either the Android File Manager, or the PC if you connect up to it, and enable the file sharing.

The Log file we seek is located under:
   {Device}:/Android/data/iFlyGPS/files/#Logs

(or something close to this)

If there is a log file, it may tell us what is going wrong on your device.

I would get the splash screen then it would stop working at different places.  A couple of times I would get this message:  “Attempts to download Database Manifest have timed out.  Please verify your internet connection and try again.”  I tried several times without success.  The Internet was working fine with everything else.

The phone did an update of its own software automatically, that took a while.  It still shows as 8.1.0.  I downloaded iFly GPS again and it still wouldn’t work.

I think I found the problem…  I had moved the 16Gb micro-sd card from the old phone to the new phone.  The new phone’s camera wouldn’t store images to the sd card.  I smelled a rat.  I reformatted the sd card and the phone’s camera then stored images ok.

I re-downloaded iFly GPS and this time it runs ok.  I guess something with the sd card wouldn’t let it store the data there until I reformatted it.

Sorry about the scare.

Jim, thank goodness it is resolved, and thank you for reporting.

Your bug report is useful.  A faulty SD Card isn't a good excuse for iFly just "shutting down without explanation".   It is our goal to be more robust on handling unexpected faulty situations like this, and giving the user more help on how it might be resolved.

If anything like this happens in the future, please do not hesitate to post a bug here, or "Menu => About => Send Bug Report" and explain the symptom there.

Happy New Year!
