Most likely as silly question, but one still has to have an active date plan on the iFly, in order for the multi platform to work, or does this just pump the information from my iFly 720 to the iPad? Most likely I'm mixed up here, but maybe there are othes that are mixed up as well. I guess if my iFly which is my primary for charts, quits, then I'd want to be running a functioning iPad as secondary GPS. Explain plz. Thx, DM

Edited:. The $20 add-on allows you to run it on a 2nd and 3rd device. You need a current/active subscription for your IFly device.

DM,

Let's see if I can clear this up for you and any others. The Multi-Platform Upgrade is really just that, an upgrade to allow you to use an active data subscription on up to 3 total devices on a mix of platforms (iFly, iPad and Android), without having to buy a complete separate subscription for that additional device.

You do need a current VFR or IFR data subscription to update your 720. You can add the $19.99 Multi-Platform Upgrade to your account. Then you not only can update your iFly 720, but you gain the use of the iFly GPS App for iPad and Android. This gives you the backup option you mention or a secondary device for only $19.99.

At this time, the two or three devices do not communicate with each other or share charts and data. Data sharing and syncing flight plans from device to device via WiFi is on our development list. But you would still need the Multi-Platform Upgrade to use the additional devices.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion. I'll see about tweaking the Multi-Platform description on the site.

Jim,

Actually, if you have a data subscription with an iFly 520, 700, or 720 it only updates one device. This is because the iFly devices will work with expired data and a subscription is not mandatory. If you add the Multi-Platform Upgrade, you get 2 more devices, for a total of three.

If you are an iPad or Android only subscriber, you get 2 like platform licenses to use the app. If you add the Multi-Platform Upgrade, you get a third device, plus it opens you up to iPad and Android, or even adding an iFly to your account should you but one.

When you say mix of platforms does that mean I can add a second IFLY to my current subscription?
