Thanks, Walter, for your interest. Yes, I have corresponded extensively with Jesse about the dropped WiFi and the unstoppable downloads. (I created several general logs and adsb logs.)
I also mentioned this issue to a gentleman (whose name I did not get) when he recently helped me extend my subscription. He said he was personally familiar with this, advising me that I needed to put my iphone into airplane mode, and lock the WiFi to the Uavionix ADSB unit (i.e., forcing the iphone to check in before switching WiFI sources.)
Also worth mentioning again, is that this happens when there s poor or no communication with ADSB towers, and at altitudes under 3500 ft, when both terrestrial WiFI sources and cellphone data are still available at this lower altitude, even if ADSB towers are indicated as out of range.
My theory, again, is that despite the setup constraint not to try to download wx in flight, when ADSB tower communication is lost, or idled too log, the iphond or ifly still looks to another source, even in flight.
As consolation, at least I do know when this is happening. In addition to the iphone dropping traffic, wx and warning the gps is lost or weak, it also indicates No Heartbeat.
My fix is to turn off Wifi, turn it back on, and reestablish communication with the Uavionix unit.
Fortunately, through all this, I am able to continue to see both traffic and wx services displayed thru a GRT display that is hardwired to the Avionix unit.
Thx, again, Walter for your interest.
