Last year going to Oshcosh, I borrowed a friends Ipad and Stratus… I left the Ipad on and frequently shut the stratus on and off as needed for weather.. Seemed to reconnect itself using the competitions software. (I could be wrong but it's how I remember it)

I’m trying the released version of ifly on my wifes Mini2. It's the 9.05.53 vs.

I also have a Dual170. The dual’s battery is good for say 4 hrs… the mini say 8. So I’d like to be able to put the dual on and off at will while leaving the Mini2 on all the time. So I tried and noted the following use case.

1) Ipad settings, privacy location services=on, and always allow access for location. In airplane mode with Bluetooth on…

  1. Both devices off. Start Ifly on iOS 8.4 ipad mini2. Comes up with GPS Status box of 3 bars. ADSB status of -----.
  2. Go to connected devices, Dual selected but not connected…
  3. Turn on Dual to GPS and ADSB in apple mode. Blue tooth light blinks on dual. No changes on ifly software.
  4. go to ipad settings, tap Bluetooth and see the 170 says “not connected” Tap to connect. Blue light on 170 goes solid… Then GPS on Dual locks in and Green now solid…
  5. back to ifly. Go to connected devices and Dual not connected and GPS status still 3 bars and ADSB Status still ------
  6. Exit Ifly App… Restart.. Now within 20 seconds, White ADSB light on Dual comes on solid and on ifly app GPS status now says ADS-B, and the ADSB status is now “out of range”…… All appears fine…
  7. Now, the sky is clear and I shut down the Dual170, leaving the mini2 on for navigation. 15seconds later, the ADSB status changes from “out of range” to “No heartbeat” Then shortly after, the GPS status changes back to the four bars. I then look at connected devices and the Dual is still showing all the information it had shown while connected even though I know it’s shut off.
  8. Now a bit later I see weather and turn the Dual170 back on…
  9. First I have to go back to ipad settings and click the dual to reconnect. Almost immediately the dual goes solid on the blue and green lights..… On the ifly app, both the GPS and ADSB status boxes still 4 bars and “No Heartbeat” On the connected devices page, nothing has changed. ( I’ve learnt that unless the dual has a solid white light, then ADSB is not talking)
  10. Next I try toggling the connected devices to none, then back to Dual. Now no information is visible on the connected devices window for the Dual… and No joy…

So, it looks like every time I power on the Dual170, I’ll have to reconnect the Bluetooth device in the mini2 settings, but will I always have to restart the ifly app? It appears that way since that’s the only way I can regain a heartbeat….. Anyone see what I’m doing wrong?

Happens as above regardless of whether the Dual Status app is running or not... Oh and I noticed that if I have the Dual Status app running, and switch screens from the Ifly app to the status app to view the battery, the ADSB white light drops out and I again have to restart the Ifly app to regain the dual functionality, making the ADSB light go bright......

This may be a duplicate of others but it's important to re-iterate, especially since I just experienced it... The Ifly app needs to remember the Dual is there, maybe just look for it... Hope this is on the list.... Thanks to all for allowing us users to share...

How often do you fly more than 4 hours in a day? Maybe you could just leave everything on and connected. Or, maybe you could purchase a 12v adapter for the Dual. If that's not available, an Anker battery.

Yup all good suggestions.. Have the Anker 16000mah, have the power adapter with double 2.1 amp USB ports, and Do fly more than 4 hrs at a time at least twice/month.. Just wanted to know if someone was aware if this is SOP or I'm doing something out of order...

The next iOS update for iFly GPS resolve the Dual dropping out when you put the app in the background. Stay tuned, it should be released in the next week or so.
