Just took my iFly on a 750 mile road trip with Streets and it is most impressive. It is way more robust and feature-rich than my Garmin Nuvi. Good-bye Nuvi. My non-pilot passenger was envious and said he wants a GPS for his truck just like the iFly without the aircraft Navigation. It switched to night mode automatically at sunset. It is cool that the user can select from multiple day and night color configurations. I set the speed limit warning to 110% and it was so cool to see the number on the speed limit sign turn from black to red when I exceeded the limit by a small margin, then the entire limit sign turned completely red when I went over the limit by 10% (going downhill, of course), then I got the audible reminder, too. The 3-D terrain driving through the mountains was neat. Finding rest stops, gas stations, restaurants and lodging along my route was extremely quick and so user-friendly. Just one fairly minor issue, however; It seemed to take longer to get an initial GPS lock when starting in Streets mode, compared to the A/C Navigation mode, which usually has GPS lock by the time I get past the disclaimer screen. GPS lock on restarts during the trip, however, were pretty much immediate.
The one feature my Nuvi has that Streets does not have is announcing street/road names at each turn (Text-to-Speech or TTS). I understand that Naviextras COULD make this available except that there is a license fee for using Loquendo's TTS technology and Naviextras does not want to pay to play. Other than these two irritants, the Streets is as much of a leap forward to road navigation as the AP software is to flying navigation. I REALLY like it.
Thanks, Walter, Shane, Ed, Patty and the rest of the AP staff who made this available. ---Ralph
