I use 2 tablets with iFly for maps when I go flying.  Both of them had some issue trying to authenticate with the server when I went flying this morning.  I have over 400 days remaining in my subscription so I'm sure this was some sort of issue that will be resolved.  I had no way to get to maps, no failback that I could figure out.  I understand the need for security and not giving away free service to expired accounts, but this was not acceptable.  Thoughts?

Figured out the issue, I had changed the password on the website and not yet in the app on the 2 tablets.  The problem remains that when I was out at the airport with no connectivity to the internet, with valid subscription and up to date maps, I was locked out of being able to use this app.  Seems like I should have been able to access the maps already downloaded.  Either that or the app should be able to remember I had a valid account, or some sort of grace period so you don't get stuck like this.

Are you sure that's your final answer?  I'm pretty sure most pilots would rather risk their account security rather than have iFly not work when they're trying to take off for a flight.  It's also not clear why you can't have a secure account *and* functional iFly software....

I tend to agree.  If his problem was that both devices he was trying to use couldn't log into iFly servers to update information, I would expect the program installed on the device to "know" the official iFly status as of the last time it did connect to the server, and base any performance on that.  If that means that he has to fly with old maps, or old weather information that would be much better than not having any navigation software at all.

Connecting to the servers can be dealt with later.

I don't think it being designed this way is OK.  I had updated maps and a valid subscription.  I don't think this is to protect my account, I don't see how locking me out of the app rather than continuing to work offline protects me.  I think it protects iFly from cancelled subscriptions, which I can understand.  However, at the very least, if I have valid maps meaning I my account was good within this current map cycle, you should not lock me out of the app.

Alright, so a quick update: I was wrong in my initial response.

This certainly seems abnormal, did a little more research and I can't get anything to duplicate.

Was this a one-off or has this happened before?
