I just ordered and received a Ping Buddy and took it flying today. I run both an iFly 700 and an iPad with iFly EFB. As a power source, I connecetd the Ping Buddy to the USB port in the iFly (which was plugged into the Cig lighter). Question #1 - does that provide adequate power? The Ping BUddy connected fine to the iPad via wifi and the iPad showed it as a connected device. However, after 30+ minutes at 3,000' it did not appear to pick up any traffic or ground stations. In looking at the "coneected divices" it showed it was connected, but receiving -0- towers. I was flying in the Hudson Valley of New York, where I would expect to receive a station. Am I doing something wrong?

After connecting via WIFI and then starting iFly GPS, did you then click Menu - About - Connected Devices - Select Wireless Device - Auto-Detect?

Also, did you click Map Mode - Traffic?

I owned a Ping-Buddy for a short while just to try it out and it worked fine. I used a battery pack to power the Ping-Buddy.

I have used the PingBuddy several times now and it appears to be working. Based at South Albany, we flew down to Sky Acres and saw a lot of traffic. On the way back, almost nothing; I think that the proximity to big plane SWF activated the ADSB towers, but nothing between there and Albany, where there is not much traffic. On another note, flying north of ALB, I was surprised to see ADSB towers displayed on the 740! Cool. And the airport weather is just the best, will help a lot on the way down to Lakeland.

My 740 has a ship's power connection with a 2 amp breaker - no problems. I use the 740 USB to power the PingBuddy. Had to get a longer cable so the PB can get closer to the windscreen. Make sure the cable is MicroUSB "B", not the MiniUSB; they look almost identical. Don't ask how I know.

Still trying to find a legend on the traffic display. Are the altitudes shown MSL or relative to my altitude? Also the + and - signs led me to believe the altitudes are the latter, but not sure.

In the settings you can choose relative or MSL altitude read-out for traffic.

But be advised that the altitude info is in pressure altitude and, on non-standard days, will be offset from Indicated.
