OSH is a private/contract tower 50 or so weeks a year. The FAA takes over the operation for Airveture, although I haven't heard what's going to happen this year, one would like to think they'll do the same this year.

I don't see it affecting AirVenture. The EAA typically brings in their own crew for Oshkosh. I've already heard from up there, that there should be no noticeable changes. I guess we'll see as we get closer.

I like your Air-Adventure. We could probably get some press on that, "Adventure Pilots take on Air-AdVenture with the simple and easy to use iFly GPS". Have a great weekend.

That brings up another idea. It might be interesting if you could get the Airventure NOTAM, and graphically depict whatever info possible, or provide a special button just for Airventure that would bring up the NOTAM information.

Has anyone on here flown into Airventure? Would something like this help or hurt? What information would be desired/needed/helpful?

Mike,

Adding NOTAMs as part of the update is on our list. This would like take care of what you are looking at. Another option, is to download the PDF for the Notam, and put into a folder names PDF on the root of the SD cards. Then you could just touch View PDFs and select the AirVenture Notam. We actually did this to demo the PDF function at OSH last year. I think the near future you will have a few methods of accessing this data on the iFly. Hope this helps.

OSH NOTAM. Finally a good reason to use paper. When it comes to the Ripon/Fisk arrival procedure you should have memorized the NOTAM in the preceeding days. Then have along paper copies for quick reference as needed. You will know which procedure to use from ATIS long before you get to Ripon. The whole arrival procedure is designed for strict visual (i.e. look out the silly window) and practically negates any need for avionics aside from radio monitoring once in the que. That's a good thing. It's about the most well-devised and effortless controlled arrivals you will ever experience. After rolling out on the runway your first time you'll want to go do it again. I have done the standard arrival 6 times and the warbird arrival once (even easier yet). Another advantage to a paper NOTAM is the parking sign is included to flash the parking crews. Unless you think holding a tablet or the iFly in the window displaying an Acrobat depiction of the parking sign is a good idea. I'm all about technology as the next guy but paper and eyeballs have practical and logical places too.Notwithstanding the preceeding by all means have a pdf on your laptop or tablet in case you want to print a fresh copy at a fuel stop on the way to KOSH.
