Thanks, Cobra, that's really interesting. I'd consider a TRIPLTEK as a possible replacement for the 740 that is mounted in my instrument panel--not as a portable tablet. It has the same screen size as a 740b and is (claimed to be) 13/11 brighter. It has a cellphone radio for updating in the field. The processor is almost certainly faster, and it appears to have a GPS and other sensors. WiFi and Bluetooth. Big battery. Whether it would drive an autopilot is unknown. Max altitude is only 15,000 feet. Whether the screen is less reflective than the 740 is also unknown. The price is essentially the same.  So it's definitely tempting.  Hm. Max operating temp is only 120 F. The 740b is good to 140 F.  My 740 has never gotten hot enough to go black. The iPad and iPhone, on the other hand, are good only to 95 F--my iPhone has gone black many times in direct sun on hot summer days, so I wouldn't want to rely on it alone for navigation.

Does anyone else have ideas about the TRIPLTEK?

I've considered the Triptek, but don't like the fact that it doesn't have capability to connect an external gps antenna.

If you are using a ADSB receiver with its own GPS receiver, then iFly is getting its GPS data that way anyway.

(And if you're not using an external ADSB receiver, you're missing out on a LOT of utility!)

I use the remote with my 740 quite a bit to dismiss the many messages that pop up. I didn't see that the Tripltek had IR remote capability.

The 740 is a Windows CE device.  I don;t think the iFly remote that works with it is compatible with any Android or iOS device.
