Walter

Flew some approachs with version 6 today and observed the a/c positioned on the plate however the plate always wanted to appear on the left of the display. When I dragged the plate to center the aircraft, the plate would move to center, after a few seconds, it would move to the left again. The right edge of the plate appeared in the center of the display. When the aircraft moved, it appeared the plate moved as well. I would of expected the plate to remain stationary and only move if the aircraft went to the edge of the plate. When the plate was on the left side, the right half of the display only showed a green background. One concern is the information on the plate that I wanted, ie missed approach and airport frequencies would dissappear and I would have to drag over, only to see it move out of view again. While the paper plates are still primary, would like to see the as much of the plate as possible on the ifly. Zoom level was not that high. Hopefully this is just a setup issue.

Thanks

Mark G.

Noticed that as well:
The approach plate now behaves like a map: sectional or low Enroute. In most ways it is good. This is the whole point of having a go-referenced approach plate. In the case descried above, it is a distraction during one of the most critical phases of flight. I am sure if the option to follow the plane is turned off, it will stop doing that, but then on regular maps, where this feature is quite useful, it will stop doing following the plane as well. Turning this feature on and off manually throughout phases of the flight is possible, but distracting.

I am sure that different people came up with slightly different "approaches" for working with iFly approach plates. What I usually do is after reviewing the top portion of the chart during approach preparation, I pan and zoom in so I can see and READ the relevant portion of the horizontal map, vertical profile, missed approach instructions, and minimums. Once the chart starts moving around on its own, it does get very distracting even if you expect it to do it. If you forget to turn off the follow plane option, after passing the final approach fix would be the worst time to try to do that.

Approach plates and airport diagrams depict a very defined area of space, so my preference would be that the follow plane option is disabled on all those.

I've confirmed this as a bug. We will have a patch release in a few weeks that corrects it; the solution will be to never auto-track to the plan when viewing a plate. (In fact it's already fixed in our code, but I'll wait to see if any other bugs come up before we release a new version)

Thanks!
Walter
