is anyone using one of these?  i tried the mount that comes with the 740 today and it fits so loosely that it easily falls off.

I use a RAM windshield mount with my iPad Mini 4. It works very well.

You'll have to be more specific.  I've used four different styles of RAM mounts with various devices (a 720, a 7" tablet, an 8" tablet, and a 10" tablet) and each has held my devices quite securely.

For my 720, there was a  threaded receptacle on the back that accepted a screw-on RAM 1" ball fixture.  For the tablets, each had its own different cradle with a 1" ball attached to the backside.  For the yoke side of the mount, I use the clamp part and medium double-socket arm in this kit (I think back in the day I bought kits with exactly the components I needed, but I don't see that kit right now):  https://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-B-121-238U

Yoke Mount with Tab-Time cradle for me. It works with multiple sized devices. The X-mount cradles do also.

Kevin,

Place your thumbs on the bottom of the mount and firmly push up - you should get a solid click when it seats.  Shouldn't be loose, in fact the new mount can sometimes be very tight at first so it's not really getting fully locked.
