IFly streets now installed....

I made it up to Oshkosh for a couple days and stopped by to see the guys at the booth. Had a good chat about some issues I'd had which turned out to be most likely caused by my crappy 1960 cigarette lighter plug. Also discovered they now have a street mapping/guiding feature available. I hadn't really wanted (or needed) a road gps but the wife had mentioned she thought it might be a good idea. I guess it could be handy since we travel with the unit in the car anyway....

With a price of $50 to add the street version it was hard to turn down so we loaded up the new card and headed home last night. The unit works fine though not quite so intuitively as the flight version. Once I got home and had time to fiddle a few things got more clear and easier to operate. Walter said there would be some updates in the near future to smooth out the change from av to street as it requires rebooting to go that way right now. Street to av is button back to the main menu to no problems there. Looking forward to playing with the new toy and getting the little woman to learn how it works.

I'm a pilot and don't understand the excitement over the Streets option when a seperate Automotive GPS with internal battery

can be bought for a little more than 50 bucks.

I am waiting for the Geo Ref approach plates, after all I bought the unit to fly.

I'm a profeaaional pilot not a weekend wonder.

While I actually share your sentiment regarding the streets option, stating that you are a professional pilot doesn't seem to have much relevance other than to provide you with an oppporunity to dismiss GA pilots as something less than real pilots. To which, all I can say is, the iFly really isn't a box designed for the jet set, so it ain't just about you, Mr. Professional Pilot.

My Mom taught me "if you cannot say something nice don't say anything". Let us adhere to that sentiment on my forum: no arguing, don't talk bad about my products, don't be rude to my customers, etc, etc, etc.

Regarding iFly streets: This is based on the best street mapping software available and runs on a big bright 7" screen - a dramatically better solution than those tiny screen/cheesy software bundles. I think pilots will love this product.

In the beginning I would have agreed with you. I had no interest in an auto GPS. I've been driving all over for years, have a good sense of direction and can read a map. I've never needed a GPS and would also agree that time spent adding aviation features is what I'd want.....however, for the low cost of the add-on and the fact that the unit rides in the car when its not in plane I think its a great idea. There have been a number of times we've hit traffic jams in oddball places and a gps would help get around trouble....whats bad about that? As for the professional use of the item the street gps it doesn't take up any space so if you don't need it don't use it. Simple answer. Other updates and add-ons are in the works.....looking forward to them too. At oshkosh at least the AdventurePilot bunch would talk to us lowly peons whether pro or low-life vfr flyer. garmin didn't seem to want to bother with us....too much trouble to talk to potential customers I guess.

Just my opinions of course.
