The following is posted on the AnywhereMap discussion forum. AWM is in the last stages of a long and drawn-out death and one of it's most ardent supporters in finally deciding to call it quits has been trying out other nav solutions to replace AWM. His comments about the iFly are below. Are the things he's describing accurate and valid? His post is from October 2015.

Thanks, Mike

Did try "iFly GPS recently. It has vector maps and does a reasonable job. These folks are trying to play catchup with the market and have a pretty good product but has some bugs in it. Their management of Direct TO seems a little difficult to use if one has a min-flight plan such as used for an approach and tries to go Direct TO the first WP; all the rest of the plan is dropped. They are missing some fundamentals such as annotation of the flight plan WP's on the nav screen. A few good tweaks to the user interface and a few other fixes and they could have a nice product that supports several GPS-ADS-B boxes.

Instead of direct to, you can add the IAF to your flight plan. Any app is going to seem like it has problems until you learn all the nuances. That's not to say it's perfect, but it's the best I've used and I've used them all except ForeFlight. Also, the waypoints are there if you overlay the appropriate approach plate. Also, they just added all of those waypoints to the beta version. Don't believe everything you read.

On the other hand, some would say your old flight plan should go away once you are flying an approach. You obviously know what airport you are going to and you have the geo-referenced approach in front of you. Why would you want or need your previous flight plan unless you were making an approach at one airport and then heading to another airport?

Also, in the latest beta V9, you will see an option on the Flight Plan page to Restore Previous Plan. So, if you tap Fly Direct-To, and lose the prior plan, you can quickly tap Flight Plan, then restore. I think you'll really like some of the new Direct-To functions coming soon. Also as OldPilot mentions, you can use the Add or Insert Waypoint option as well.

I tried a lot of different apps before I finally bought Ifly and obviously I liked Ifly the best. The one that others seem to like that I did not try was Foreflight because it is for Ipad only. I bought my tablet specifically for Ifly and got Andoid because it was much less expensive, I was used to it from my Android phone, there were a lot of different ones to choose from, and I didn't want to be a slave to Apple only. I also wanted an app that I could run on the tablet and my phone as a backup since I planned on using it as my only source of charts and approach plates flying IFR.

There were things Ifly did not have when I got it, but I spoke to them and all of them were things they were working on adding and they were added as promised or close to being added now. The updates and listening to the users is one thing Ifly is really doing right.
