I received mine on or about 3/25 but didn't get to fly with it till last Saturday when my son and I took a short hop. So, I had plenty of time to play with it before my first flight. I've had numerous GPS for the road and previously had a AV8OR for my plane and this is by far the most intuitive GPS I've ever used. On the first flight my son was PIC and had not had an opportunity to spend any time with the unit and I didn't give him any training. Regardless, he was able to quickly figure out how to get the information he wanted, create a quick flight plan and we were off. In comparison to my AV8OR the 700 is a piece of cake when it comes to ease of use.
I had been planning my iFly 700 purchase for some time when reworking the panel of my Rans S-6ES so I had a spot reserved. I plan on using a modified RAM mount because the location on my panel won't work for a suction cup but having not seen the 700 mount I held off on ordering anything. For the first flight I just mounted a 10-32 with a shallow head in the center of the panel and slid the 700 over it. This put the 700 flat against the panel in the center. The only problems this caused was the inability to swivel the unit out of the glare from the sun and it took a few minutes for it to lock onto enough satellites. We are both very impressed and the only complaint I have is the sensitivity of the antenna. When I get the swivel mount installed I send some photos. Great job Walter!
