The bolt is wide enough that it can't spin, but it does "wobble". The thumb nuts don't put a wide enough bite on the iFly. That's the reason I used the rubber washer, it helps quite a bit. I'm looking for bigger thumb nut. I've found one with a 7/8" flange. I'll let eveyone know how it works out.

Thanks for the update. I may switch to your mount from the mounting plate I am using based on your feedback. I am holding off since I am thinking that the back of the mounting plate will be a good place to velcro the battery pack that I have ordered.

I replaced the thumb nuts with a flanged wing nut w/ a 7/8" flanged bottom and now the mount is rock solid.

McMaster-Carr part number 92239A200 ($9.51 for 25 pack)

This is a great permanent solution. My temporary solution works well enough to be able to use the Ram mount while getting the parts for doing it right. I was looking in the hangar to see what I could use to enlarge the diameter of the throat and ball provided with the unit. I cut a thin slice of vinyl hose, about 3/16" wide from a 7/16" hose, split it and put it around the throat. This effectively increased the size of the throat. Then I took one of the shipping caps that were installed in my recently overhauled DG to keep the dust out of the system. If you have had to cap anything in the vacuum system, most of the instrument caps are the same size. I slid the cap on the ball provided with the unit, These two items provided a good enough fit on the ram mount that I can mount the GPS on the yoke.
