I will second this request, as long as it works better than the auto taxi mechanization.

I thought the Auto-Taxi switch had been fixed? It's working fine for me in 9.7.xb.

Anyway, the request for Auto-Runway-Ext came up last year or so. I like the idea, but as Shane pointed out, for airports with multiple-runways, it clutters things up a lot.

IIRC, I also suggested reading the winds to suggest a Runway extension. One problem with that is that a lot of airports have calm wind runways, where you land one way even up to a 10 kt tailwind.

I haven't had any more brainstorms since then. Perhaps a user option when one of the QV buttons adapts when you're within 15 miles of your Flight Plan airport, where Runway Extension moves to the top of the stack, button-wise? (Would only save one click. Three instead of four.) But "violates" my rule for consistency in the UI.

If an airport is in your flight plan, Simply Touch-Hold until your see the green dots, then release and you should see a " Extend Runways: 'xxx' " option in the list.

Interesting. Two comments: First, now that we have quick tap to bring up the Quick View, I never use the Long Touch, red dots to green dot thing. That used to be way to get things done in iFly, but now QV is my "go to" method. (Is there anything in the Long Touch that cannot be done in QV? If not, then I suggest deprecating Long Touch and phasing it out. Might make the interface snappier, since it wouldn't have to think whether this is a Long Touch.) Second, I tried Shane's suggestion on a random airport. It didn't work. Then I reread his instruction. It only works for Flight Plan airports. I have three concerns with that: a: It means that a menu changes depending on whether an airport is in a Flight Plan or not. My fingers learn how many spaces down a feature is in a window. I like consistency in menus. When a list of menu items change, it messes me up. b: It's not consistent with QV behavior. That is, I can call up Extended Runways for any random (non-Flight Plan) airport from QV. But I can't do it from the Long-Touch? c: Were I using Long-Touch, I would want Extended Runways showing as a first tier menu item for any airport. That way, if I need to deviate to a non-Flight Plan airport, Runway Extension is easily available.

If it is decided to have iFly interpret the airport weather and choose a runway aligned with the wind, I would think it also simple enough for iFly to read the airport comments and know when to use a calm wind runway. I would suggest, however, that some indication be made when depicting a runway not aligned with the wind. Perhaps the extensions could be a different color, perhaps a pop up window that needs to be acknowledged. If I'm flying into an airport with a calm wind runway that I'm not aware of, and I know the wind is aligned with a different runway, I may assume that iFly is depicting the runway aligned with the wind simply because it "always does". I would then be landing with a (up to 10 kt) cross or tail wind.

Shane,

I use the touch-hold shortcut method very often, and find myself always using the extend all option because no more button presses are required to clear the selection box from the screen. How about clearing the selection box automatically once a single runway is selected also?
