The Past Flights, or breadcrumbs logs, are in NMEA format. These are in the .logs folder inside the User folder. You can convert them to GPX or KML using the GPS Visualizer site.

Shane, there is not enough info in this message to convert the breadcrumb log files.  GPS Visualizer cannot completely understand the NMEA that iFly creates. (The converted KML files have no altitude, although I see it in the raw log NMEA. So the tracks in Google Earth are glued to the ground, buildings, trees.)

I can't find more info, so I am responded to this old message.

To see my breadcrumbs in Google Earth:

1. I email the log file from my android phone to my laptop

2. I change the extension to GPX. (missing from your message)

3. I use GPS Visualizer to convert to a KML file

4. I turn on KML import within Google Earth, and then import

The laptop step is needed because iFly does not export KML directly, and GE does not recognize NMEA.  There are many variations of NMEA, sadly, so without knowing which one iFly is creating, GPS Visualizer cannot convert.  I change the extension to GPX to give GPS Visualizer a hint. If iFly exported KML, I could look at the tracks directly on Google Earth on my phone, like I did with ForeFlight.

Shane, is your workflow similar?  What flavor NMEA are you generating? Garmin, Magellan, etc?

Tom

Hi Tom; Shane has left the building!

I'm just an iFly customer, but maybe I can help.  Here's how I do it:

Go to gpsvisualizer.com

Click the Google Earth option

Fill out the desired options (altitude, etc.) and specify the file to upload (no renaming necessary)

Click Create KML File (I open in new window)

When the new window opens, click the filename it created

Using Chrome, the file downloads to your computer where you click it and it automatically opens in Google Earth.  Other browsers may open it directly without having to click on it

The important thing is to play around with the gpsvisualizer settings.  They're not very intuitive, but you can color by altitude, clamp to the ground (default), connect to ground by a line, etc.

I'm unable to upload an image here, but I just did the above steps and ended up with my flight path depicted above the ground, with the ability to click on any of the waypoints and see the altitude, speed, direction, and other info.  The key is to play around with the gpsvisualizer settings to get what you want.

Good luck!

Thanks, Jeff. I see I missed two important parts, both related to GPS Visualizer.  I was mistaken that iFlywith was at fault.

For those who come after me, here is the MUCH SIMPLER step-by-step sequence that worked perfectly.  With Google Earth installed on your Android device:

1. Open http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=googleearth

2. Change Altitude Mode in Track Options to "Absolute".

3. Under Upload your GPS data, click the Upload your GPS data button

4. Find the data in Android/data/iFly.GPS/files/iFly/#FlightLogs (a pain to find)

5. In GPS Visualizer, click Create KML File button

6. Click on the resulting KML file, which opens in Google Earth.

Pretty slick.  Thanks or the pointers, Jeff.
