Don’t know if asked before but…
I would like to be able to name a waypoint instead of the default GPS coordinates given.

Fifty-nine air miles almost due east from KDVT at Lake Roosevelt is an airstrip called Grapevine Airstrip E75 (E75 not in a database) that is only open once a month. See AZPilots.org

The sectional shows that it is a closed airstrip (see picture). I would like to be able to name the waypoint instead of the default GPS cords.

Another reason to rename GPS coordinate waypoints is that I may have several waypoints and I don’t remember which GPS waypoint is which when looking at the Flight Plan.

Thanks

David,

Try this. Touch the closed airport, and add as a Custom Waypoint. This will allow you to rename that waypoint location. Then you can add it to your flight plan and it will show as the name of the Custom Waypoint. You will also see a small banner flag with that name as well.

We actually do have it on our wishlist and I'm pushing for it. (basically to have the ability to enter your own custom waypoint by name, type, freq, comments, etc) allowing you to even add and modify currect waypoints in the database. Maybe even a "User Notes" for the official databate items. I hope this helps.

Thanks Shane, forgot about Custom Waypoints, although I created one before.

I like your idea of a Waypoint Database because the 'Banner' gets large with info for freq, runway info, user notes, etc.

I thought that might help. As for the "banner", I think it should only show a short name, then you'd have to touch that banner and get info on the custom waypoint. This should keep the banner concise and less obtrusive. This is jjust one option we are looking at.
