I currently have maps/data for 12 states.  All of the maps are up to date.  I want to reduce the map count to 4 states.  After selecting "Update" on the 740b tablet.  I get a long list for Sectional Charts, TAC charts, airport photos, airport diagrams.  Some of the states or cities, that I have do not even show up on the list.    Do I have to deslect everything?

I haven't used a dedicated iFly device in a long time, and am not sure if the user interface has changed, but I'm confused when you say "you have maps/data for 12 states", but then talk about selecting data from the list on the 740b.

iFly is almost identical in look-and-feel across all the platforms it runs on, but there is (or at least used to be) a big difference in how the dedicated iFly device data update process works vs. how it works on Android, iOS, and Windows.

On a tablet or PC device, the update data selection is managed graphically by tapping on a CONUS map to (de)seelct individual states (which iFly translates behind-the-scenes into all the proper sectionals, RealView imagery, airport data from the Chart Supplement, etc. required to cover those states).

However, on the dedicated devices like the 740b you are presented with all of the FAA chart and data products individually in a textual list of product names.  Instead of just tapping a picture of Texas, you have to go manually select the Houston sectional, Memphis sectional, Albuquerque sectional, San Antoinio sectional, IFR Low Enroute Charts 21 and 22, etc.  Once you select the set of data you want, I think there's a button you can click or checkbox you can select to "save current selections", so when you do more updates in the future it will  always grab that same set of data.

You can perform 740b data updates within iFly while the device is connected to the Internet, or you can pop out the device's SD card and move it to a Windows machine and use iFly Connect as I mentioned in a previous reply.  You can also go to the iFly website and use the "Builselect the data you want via the iFly website, then download it to a USB stick and plug that into your device prior to booting, and it will pick up the updates during the boot process.

This site has all the details on the various ways you can update a 740b:  https://www.iflygps.com/iFly-GPS/Upda...es/Instructions

Does that answer your question?

Thanks to everyone that has replied.  Let me clarify.  My question is specific to the 740b tablet and YES, I have one.  I have the IFLYGPS app running on three different devices, a Windows desk top computer, 740b tablet and Apple IPAD.   The updating data sequence is pretty much the same on the Windows desktop and the Apple IPAD.  It is done from WITHIN the running IFLYGPS app (Menu> Check for Updates).  One is then presented with a map where the states you have selected are different colors, depending on whether the data is current or not.  Click on the state where you want the data.  When I first loaded the app, I downloaded 12 states.

The updating sequence on the 740b tablet is DIFFERENT!  One starts the UPDATE app..........NOT  the IFLYGPS app. My first download of data included all 12 states that I had selected on the other devices.  The selection process was checking a list of Sectionals, TAFs, etc.  Then press "Install".

Now, I want to only have about 7-8 of those states.   I guess the real solution is when the next round of Sectional, TAF updates becomes available for the 740b tablet, just don't install all 12 states.

Thanks,

Steve

updating the 7 series is totally different from updating the mobile app.

if something isn't in the file manifest that means it's up to date.

otherwise, make sure it is unchecked in the FM and hit save selections

Go through the list of products and de-select the ones you don't want, so only the products you want are selected.

Somewhere (I think at the top of the list) is a checkbox or button labeled something like "Remember this selection" or something.  Make sure that checkbox is selected or click the button or whatever it is.

The next time you update, it will remember this set of selected products.

(Apologies for the vagueness.  I'm trying to help, but I haven't used my 720 in years, and don't remember exactly how it worked.)
