I am considering getting an Astrolink to replace a very troublesome Stratux unit.  I am also looking ahead to installing ADSB out.  My question is, will the Astrolink serve as a GPS source for the Echo UAT, or would I still need to get the SkyFyx GPS with the Echo?

You may have to do a reset/recalibrate to your ADSB through the iFly. 

You may also have to start shutting it down like you would a computer, and I believe you will see better results. I do these things and so far, so good.

Another thing you MAY want to do is simply BUY another flashed card (or two) and keep them with you in the plane.  

I keep a couple with me - one extra is actually affixed to the stratux should I have to replace it IN FLIGHT.

Before spending another $600 on a new system, perhaps ONE MORE TRY with STRATUX might be worth it?

In this photo, my STRATUS is up front with another CARD on top just in case I need it. The cards are inexpensive.  You can put a new one in while you are home reflashing your old one and never lose a flight.

Here is how you get into the STRATUX to reset it, if it is not too far corrupted.

I find that these can get corrupted by simply "pulling the power" at the end of the flight, similar to pulling the plug on a desktop computer at home (we don't normally do that due to the damage it MAY cause).

Once you get your card reflashed (sounds like that is what is needed, OR, you can just buy a couple of extra cards and start over), please refer to the iFly to shut down properly.

When you are parked and after your engine is shut down (assuming you are runnign the STRATUX off of a battery) refer to the MENU on iFly.

MENU

SHUT DOWN 

then two boxes will appear...

SHUT DOWN STRATUX and SHUT DOWN APPLICATION

At this point, SHUT DOWN STRATUX

NOTE: You will see your stratux box lights begin to BLINK RED and GREEN..allow them to do that until they cease blinking, then and only then should you pull power.

Then, MENU, then..

SHUT DOWN APPLICATION to exit the app.

This is a SAFE way to shut down the STRATUX and the iFLY app.

Since I started doing this, I have had ZERO problems with my STRATUX.

I hope your luck is similar!

One more tip for you, once you get your STRATUX going again, to reset the AHRS and get your synthetic vision to work properly after a reflash or other anomolies.

MENU

SETUP

ALERTS adn WARNINGS

AHRS ALERTS

--RECALIBRATE TO LEVEL

-RECAL AHRS in STRATUX or iFLY (you pick and hit OK)

-CHECK EFIS for level on the ground and in the air. Go to your MAP mode and tap on EFIS to see you are level.

Mike,

Thanks for all that.   I have done all those things you mentioned numerous times, with the exeption of the shutdown proceedure.  I am running the iFly 740.  It looks like  you are using a tablet?   Your EFIS display looks different than mine, and it sounds like the menu system is different as well.

Recalibrating the AHRS is easy if it is connected.  I just tap on the artificial horizon on the map, and  it gives  that option. My issue is it loses wifi connection.  I know it is the Stratux, because I monitor wifi on my phone, and that is what disappears.  I have reflashed cards many times, and like you, started carrying a spare in the plane.  I can't do it in flight, though, due to where and how my Stratux is mounted.  Even if that were easy, it is not  important enough for me to mess with it in flight.

I appreciate you giving me the proceedure for shutdown.  On the 740, "MENU" gives an "Exit Application" option instead of "Shut Down."  Then you can choose whether to "Run in Background" or Shutdown the GPS Application.  I have never seen any options for shutting down Stratux.  However, when I get the Stratux in hand with the 740 next time, I will look again to be sure.  The only thing I know I can do is go to Network Settings in the 740 and tell it to disconnect from Stratux (or any other WiFi it is using.)  This does not shut down the Stratux, but just breaks its connection to the 740.  Which iis what happens when it screws up.......  The Stratux red and green lighs are still on, the fan operates as needed, but it is not communicating with the iFly.  Usually if I shut off power to Stratux and restart it, WiFi connects again and it works for a while.  But not always.

In fact, I don't think  the 740 has Wifi out, so may not be capable of telling Stratux to shut down?  The 740 never shows up on my phone or computer when searching Wifi signals.  If I am wrong here, someone let me know.
