I was made aware recently that Ifly is no longer compatible with older Motorola tablets such as my Motorola Xoom 10.1 tablet. The tablet runs an older version of Android (4.0.4) and is no longer updated with newer versions of Android. It suddenly quit working with Ifly, so I contacted Ifly. I was advised "it's a Google thing" and that they are no longer able to support my tablet since it is " Android 4.4 or below". No negotiations or notice, just bye bye. I still use it with my other smaller, newer device, but the tablet had better GPS and great screen size. I'm very disappointed, and will end up upgrading my tablet, but not sure if I will stay with Ifly after being dumped with no notice while paying a subscription.

The app store still shows it is compatible with the older devices and will download, but won't communicate. Just be aware if you do have some older equipment.

Hi Dan -I'll line out and reference what we spoke about yesterday here:

- Google made a recent security update to all developers that says basically "you need to update your app to run a minimum version of 4.4 to safeguard against certain security and performance gaps" https://developer.android.com/distrib...elop/target-sdk

- Android 4.4 was released on 31 Oct 2013, the current version is v10.xx. We have tried absolutely everything to keep a very wide tent open to all of our clients, but there are huge roadblocks when creating new innovations while trying to make sure 7 year old devices can still be used.

As we talked about, the key to success here is to update your tablet to android 4.4 so as to meet the minimum operating specficaitions and you will have issues updating any other apps you might have on your device.

Don, I am truly sorry about dropping that support without notice.  The way the Google Store advertises it, it should have "retained version 10.3" which should still work on your device.  You just won't be able to get anything new from us on that device.   So, per Google's note, they told us that you'd still be supported (via 10.3).   It appears that for you, this is not working.

So we didn't send out the notice given that Google told us that our previous version would remain deployed to devices like yours, while at same time, this only impacted only 2-3% of our users, as 97%+ of installations were on non-old devices.  Obsoleting your device was forced on us; but failure to send you a notice was our fault.  We should have done better.

It's Don, Brolin, and every other app on my tablet works fine, but thanks for the reply. As an update, I did get some helpful info from a developer. He showed me how to access an earlier version of Ifly from the website, which will still work for older tablets that can't be updated to 4.4. So, those of us with older equipment, which still has many years of service life left, still have an option for now. Thanks!

I'll have to go look at my tablet OS version, but I might have run into the same issue.  I get a notice when running the app that there is a new version available, but when I go to the app store there is no update available and it just lets me open the app I already have installed.  Sounds like what you expected the store to do.  Is there a way to not have the ifly app warn me of an update that isn't compatible with my device?
