Since neither I nor anyone I know lives at airports, is there a simple method within iFly to find airports that are near my city/town destination?  That is, I know the airport designation where I'm leaving from but I only know the city/town I need to fly to.  So how do I find that town's airports within iFly?  Flight planner does not have that capability that I know of.  This always adds extra time and frustration when I need to go somewhere I've never been before.  Help, please.

Thanks,

Skypuppy

Thanks for the question.  Here's what I'd suggest from within iFly.   Tap-Hold the desired location on the map, and from the menu select "Search Nearby". This puts you in the mode of finding Nearest Airports to wherever you tap on the map, and provides you with information on each.   When you find the one you like, tap "D->" button and it'll create a direct-to flight plan for you.   Or you can tap "Flight Plan => Add Waypoint"

You can also tap the "Filters" button at top left on this form, and select to filter your airports based on qualifications for your aircraft.

Hopefully this method gives you what you are wanting.

Good thing we have this forum to rely on since the manual does not give many of the answers we need.

Brian: In lue of an updates manual how about a "TIP SECTION" where we learn obout other neat features.

I tried earlier to do this with the subject line reading "Did you know IFLY could do this?"

That presumes you know 1) where the city/town IS, and 2) you can find it on a sectional!  :)  :)

For finding the city location, try just Menu => Text Search, and type the name of the city.   Our search algorithm also searches the City name.   For example, if I wanted to fly to Batavia, OH, and was looking for an airport, I type in Search -> "BATA..." and I find "Clermont County" airport in this area.   This should work for any city where there are at least some navaids or airports with the same name as the city.

Dear Devs,

If the ifly algorithm finds "no match" then please have the app do an internet search and show the lat long as a point on the map.  Like the winds aloft, it would be an internet only feature.

Example input:

Near me > Text Search > "Hermitage TN"

Current Result: "No Match"

Desired Result: 36.1988° N, 86.6198° W(or your desired format) then I click Done and see this point on the map.
