Has anyone had this issue the XGPS170 and overcome it?

I have the XGPS170 paired with a Nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.4.4. If I start the Dual unit in "GPS" mode the tablet and iFly software receiving GPS data from the Dual unit. However, once I switch the Dual unit to "ADS-B" mode the GPS completely fails and the tablet and iFly software lose GPS data. If I switch the Dual back to "GPS" mode it will slowly reacquire satellites and the tablet and iFly software receive GPS data.

If I start the Dual unit in ADS-B mode the unit does not receiver GPS lock or data.

I haven't yet flown with the Dual so unsure if the device receives ADS-B data.

Any help is appreciate. Dual has not respond to email (yesterday) or phone messages (today) on their XGPS170 help line.

THANKS!

I was just testing this out yesterday on the ground. I did notice that the Dual XGPS was slow to acquire a GPS signal while set to ADSB mode. Once it did acquire a GPS position (it took a few minutes, and up to 10 minutes on one test run), iFly picked up the Dual's GPS position immediately. I attributed the slow GPS acquisition time to being on-the-ground.

On-the-ground, the GPS mode for the Dual works much more reliably than ADSB mode.

From an iFly perspective, to determine if these is any issue with connectivity between the iFly and the Dual XGPS, select "Menu => About => Connected Devices", and after selecting wireless device "Dual XGPS", make sure the bottom status box shows that we're receiving "Heartbeats" (bottom-most number). If we're receiving heart beats, then from an iFly perspective, everything is connected fine.

It sounds like your issue is with the Dual XGPS not acquiring a GPS signal while in ADSB mode, correct?

Brian, thanks for the feedback. Yes, once I switch the Dual XGPS170 from GPS to ADS-B mode the GPS lock completely goes away and is not reacquired after a few minutes. I can trying giving the GPS unit more time but the status app doesn't show any satellites in sight after a few minutes in ADS-B mode.

I don't expect to pick up ADS-B on the ground, so not surprised that didn't get any data.

Thank you for the procedure to confirm that iFly is receiving data from the remote GPS. I will use that this evening.

I still haven't heard from Dual regarding my tech help call and email.

Perhaps it's a weekend thing? I had good luck with Dual's telephone tech help when I had initial troubles making mine work with my Android + Ifly. That said, I received the impression I was talking to some sort of contractor, rather than a factory wizard.

If you have access to an I-thing, Dual has an excellent free app for testing/verifying your XGPS hardware. But last I knew, no Android version.
