...Yes, I knew the battery was for backup but thought it would last somewhat longer. My main concern was not being able to get on wifi. I haven't been able to fly with the unit but if I can't get on wifi next to the router will it work in the plane for ADSB. If it ever stops raining guess I'll find out then.
I had a similar problem getting my 740's wifi to connect, and someone--maybe it was Cobra--told me to back out of iFly and go to Setup > Network and then delete all routers listed as "Pre". (I don't have the 740 here and may not remember everything exactly, but you'll probably figure it out.) Apparently, the 740s have trouble when there's more than one "Pre" router in memory. Then re-connect your 740B to the wifi router you want it to talk to--your ADS-B router, in this case--and it should connect just fine.
What I don't fully understand is that after a while my 740 somehow learned what to do when it had "Pre-ed" both my ADS-B router and my home router. It took a while, but now it knows to connect to whichever it sees.
For about 10 months my iPhone had a similar problem--wouldn't automatically connect to the ADS-B router; I had to do it manually every time. Until three days ago, when it connected automatically again.
