Don, I feel your pain re: wi-fi networks on the dedicated iFly devices.  I don't have a 740, but my 720 is also finicky about that.  My solution to the issue may not be acceptable to you:  I configured the 720 to join my Stratux network in the plane, and that's the only network I let it connect to.  That supports the flight-plan sharing that I want it to do, and it gets the ADSB-in from the Stratux while I'm flying.

Outside of the plane, I pull the SD card from the 720 to do data and software updates, so it never has to go onto a wifi network outside of the plane.'

If you don't have an ADSB-in device that can act as a wifi hub in the plane, then that won't be a good solution for you.  Once you get your uAvionix device set up, though, you may be able to do what I'm describing.

That's exactly how I do it - the 740 is always connected to the Stratux, and my phone is easy to connect to the Stratux network - synching then is easy.

I'm not sure how the uAvionix SKYFYX EXT installation will work out when it's finished. But I had it running yesterday with temporary jumper wiring and was able to connect to it simultaneously with both the 740 and the iPhone--so it evidently works like most other wifi servers. I could see ADS-B traffic and weather on both displays, so that was cool. I think the 740 was able to get METAR data from ADS-B, too, but didn't pay special attention and am not positive of that.

So in other words the 740 connected nicely to the uAvionix network. It was the only network listed in the 740.

It'll be interesting to see if the phone can sync to the 740 via the uAvionix server. That would be very cool and of course would solve my problem and shut me right up. It'll be even nicer if the phone can still get data through the cell network, as that's how most of the seaplane folks around here make initial contact in flight. With luck and a warming trend I should know tomorrow or the next day. (Forecast low of 25F here in tidewater Virginia tonight.)

Yeah, it sounds like you'll be able to use the uAvionix network the same way I use my Stratux network, and your phone and 740 should sync just fine.

I'm not an iOS guy, so others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to connect your phone to both the uAvioncs network and the cell network for data at the same time. However, that may not be too big a deal.  On my Android phone, if a (known) wifi network is available, it will preferentially attach to that and try to use it for data, so if I were in your situation, I would turn on wifi when I wanted to sync to the 740, then turn wifi off when I wanted to use the cell network for data connections.  If your iPhone works similarly, then that may be an easy switch for you, too.

I just happen to have an Echo powerd up right next to me on my desk here...with two connected 740b's, and tfering flight plans is working perfectly.

Walter, do you happen to know if the 740b is better than the 740 about connecting to a nearby known network when it lists more than one network as known ("Pre")? My 740 has never been able to do that reliably. It almost always fails to connect to anything if it has to choose. The only remedy I've found is to delete all but the one network I want to use--meaning that it's always a manual connection when I need to connect to a different network, no matter how often I've connected to it before.
