Why not get with the program and equip your aircraft with ADS-B out? Anyone who can afford to own or fly an airplane can afford to equip with ADS-B out. I realize there are those who will resist anything our government tries to do, but the train has left the station.

I'm yet to understand why only ads-b out will be required, vs. in/out. Since ads-b is an airspace requirement, such a small percentage of the US will even require it. Without "in", or a display to show aircraft transmitting"out", it is useless. Any aircraft that doesnt fly in a Mode C area wont need it, nor will non-electrical planes (which is the same as a transponder now). And then, the FAA will eliminate radar, and then the only thing atc will see is ads-b out installed aircraft. Thats great in high density (Mode C) areas, but will have no effect elsewhere (99% of the US!)
Its a great tool, i've had it installed for 3 years, but it will have major shortcomings.

Why not equip now? Because there isn't an area where ADS-B is required in 150 miles of where I live. When I finally get out of testing my experimental, and if I decide to go to one of those places where it is required, I'll have to install it. But if I just fly in the local area, I may never need it.

Too many of the FAA's trains that left the station have been on their way to a train wreck. I still remember the 1988 transponder requirements that were rather quickly rescended.

There was a point along in there in which we were told we'd all need to replace our mode C transponders with mode S. King Radio believed it, and spent a lot of money creating a Mode S transponder which few bought, because the FAA changed their mind.

I respect your opinion, but until I really need this, and I see just how the mandate plays out, I can't see spending (in my case) about $3,000 to comply. This is not a trivial sum for most of us.

I'd list myself as another old pilot, but I've only been flying for 48 years.

I've only been flying 52 years. If I didn't plan to fly in airspace that will require ADS-B out, then I might not equip with it either. On the other hand, I wouldn't be complaining about it.
