Buy yourself one of these. ($6, Amazon Prime; I have 2). Shows you what voltage and amperage is being output. You can plug your Pi into a known good power supply and see how much power it really wants, and then plug it into the 500ma supply and see if it's able to draw the same amount. The Pi's power requirement will go up once the SDR & WiFi is pushing data to it.

Thanks, I just ordered one. If it needs more power than the hub can supply, I'll just purchase a dual socket adapter for the airplane's 12v socket.

I just read that the powered hub I purchased must be receiving a USB signal from the connected computer before it will power up. Therefore, I will not be able to power the Raspberry Pi from the hub. I'll buy a WalMart dual cigarette socket and power the Raspberry from one side and the hub from the other side.

I decided to cover the plexiglas so it would look less homemade bombish, but I still wanted it to look dangerous.
