I had not flown for awhile and recently updated my iFly. I see there are some new items. I am sure they are explained somewhere in the manula but since we have this fourm it seems the easiest way for an answer. At the edge of the compass ring that follows the airplane icon there is a box. What is it for? The other day going to my destination it showed 15 and on return showed 17. Also a thick black horizontal line appeared near the bottom of the screen. Tapping it would reduce it to a finer line. What is it?

Not sure on the black line but the little box on the compass ring is the radius of the rose, i.e. it shows the distance from the plane to the ring. Varies by zoom level becuase the size of the rose stays the same.
The box of the outer ring of the compass rose is used for two options. The "Dynamic Ring Radius" and the "ETE to the Ring" options are shown in that box. These can be set to on or off in the Map Setting menus. Hope this helps.
